Acoustic Drum Kit Shops
The acoustic drum kit is what most consider to be the regular or more "normal" style of drum kit. It is referred to as acoustic for the purposes of many shops because striking the skins of the drums and cymbals produces a sound. An acoustic drum kit is made up from a wide variety of components that are arranged to suit an individual player. These parts include drums and cymbals, and sometimes other more exotic things such as cowbells, wood blocks, gongs, chimes, tambourines. The components of an acoustic drum kit are struck with a number of implements; the most common is the standard "drum-stick" however brushes, mallets and soft topped sticks can also be used. The exception to this on the acoustic drum kit is the bass drum that is played by a foot operated pedal, and occasionally the hi hat cymbals that also use a pedal in addition to being struck in a regular motion with the sticks. Different musical styles require variations of the acoustic drum kit. In rock and metal music the bass drum and accompanying hi-hat and snare are the primary parts of the instrument however in jazz you will find ride cymbals and hi hats from the acoustic kit accompanied by brushed snare drums as a means to create a different sound. When you are looking for shops to purchase your instrument you should be sure to sit down and play various kits in the shops themselves until you find an acoustic kit that you are comfortable with. Depending on the shops that you visit many will be able to offer you friendly, helpful impartial advice and assist you in customising the kits that you try for your body shape and posture. Many components of the acoustic kit are very adjustable and with a bit of trial and error you will be able to adjust it perfectly to suit you.
